#52ancestors Week 5 Oops (Jan. 29-Feb. 4)

The story in my husband's family was that his great grandpa Orson Bunker had died in a work related accident. Something about an explosions around early 1900's. William and Louis both were then bound boys.   Well: Orson did not die in an explosion but survived until 1949. And had a second family in Michigan with eight children.

about late 1940's.

The truth was Orson had been in 1899 - sentence to 6 month for assault on wife. On February 1902 was incarcerated to the Indiana State Prison for Petty Larceny (stealing horses). Sentence was 1-3 years. On 1 October 1903 he was parole. Was returned from parole 4 May 1904. And finally discharge 18 March 1905.

On 11 July 1905 Orson's sons William and Louis were place thru the Board of State Charities to two different families that lived in Lake County, Indiana. His wife Rosa remarried on 10 November 1908. I have not been able to find a legal Divorce but Rose did file for divorce on 2 March 1900 in Huntington, Indiana. They were still living together as a family on the 1900 Federal Census.

On 30 April 1910 Orson was again incarcerated to the Indiana State Prison North for Grand Larceny, (stealing horses), sentence 1-14 years. Was paroled on 11 May 1914.  Discharge from parole 21 December 1933.

Orson married Elvira Purdy on February 1915 in California Township, Branch, Michigan.

My husband and I were able to meet Orson's other family in the early 1990's.
